LifeLock

National newspapers and Radio Ads LifeLock has created a buzz about their company. How can anyone be so stupid to give out their SSN to the general public? Isn’t he just asking for trouble? Well, we certainly wouldn’t recommend that anyone else do it regardless of how well they are protected. Davis on the other hand has a lot to gain and their is no doubt he believes in the protection that LifeLock offers. Is their a better way to instill confidence in consumers who are only beginning to learn that they should protect themselves from identity theft. If there is we can’t think of it, Davis put his money where his mouth is and the campaign has been a great success. LifeLock has been one of the fastest growing companies in the US and has been nominated for multiple American Business Awards, including Best New Company and Best New Product/Service. They also won Red Herring 200 which is an award reserved for the 200 most innovative and promising private firms in the U.S. and Canada. LifeLock is well backed financially with premier investment firms Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Bessemer Venture Partners and Biltmore Ventures providing the cash flow and stability that a young company needs. This January they also received funding from prestigious firm Goldman Sachs Inc. We mention this because any company that guarantees your good name with a million dollars needs to be able to live up to that promise and LifeLock certainly has the financial resources to do so. LifeLock continues to get stronger signing up a large majority of there 400,000 customers in 2007.
LifeLock.com places fraud alerts at all three credit bureaus and maintains these alerts every 90 days renewing them before they expire. A fraud alert causes the credit bureaus to publish your phone number in your credit file and when a creditor such as a bank accesses your file they are required per the FACT ACT passed by Congress, to call your phone number to confirm that they are dealing with you. The system has worked extremely well and is the most effective identity protection service as it is proactive rather than reactive, stopping identity theft before it happens. This proactive system differs greatly from credit monitoring which only informs you that someone has used your credit and then leaves you the emotionally draining and costly task of restoring your credit and clearing your name.
